Single Source Poon Diesel Headstash Cold Cure Rosin Batter Review
Highlights
Experience
If you’re looking to take a sensory hash journey, Single Source’s Poon Diesel Cold Cure Rosin Batter will deliver just that and probably more. The smell alone is immediately intriguing, especially if you’ve never encountered the Poon Tang Pie strain. In a world full of insipid products and played out strains, a clean, well crafted rosin like this Poon Diesel is a beacon to those of us with a palate that craves something different.
Texture
This gram of Rosin Batter, which was an appealing tree sap gold color, rested in a greasy heap in the bottom of its glass jar. It seems that Single Source aims for a certain consistency with their cold cure batters, because this texture was consistent with other cold cure products of theirs we’ve picked up recently—clearly and quite literally they have their post processing down to a science. While this gram overall had a stable texture, typically the kind I pray for when picking out solventless products, it did stiffen up a bit as the gram depleted. It didn’t “dry out” per se, but it turned from a soft, stretchy batter to more of a greasy wax.
Aroma
Luckily for us, TerpGuide has reviewed both Single Source strains that make up the Poon Diesel blend individually as well: Poon Tang Pie and Sour Diesel. Both strains separately have unique and ultimately complementary characteristics, so it’s no surprise that Single Source thought to mix them together. I’d be interested to smell the genetic cross of these two strains though, especially since this blend’s aroma is dominated by Poon Tang Pie. More specifically, the Poon Diesel blend boasts a sour, tropical fruit-like funkiness with some thin hints of fuel.
Mode of Consumption
Having just purchased a new Leisure incycler and Zephyr Quartz bucket, I was stoked to try this Poon Diesel properly. I heated the banger and allowed it to cool to about 525°F for a mild smoke to prioritize flavor.
Flavors & Mouthfeel
Inhaling the vapor of a roughly Tic-Tac-sized dab resulted in a Poon Tang Pie-forward flavor smack. To those that haven’t experienced this, it's mostly tropically fruity, but not sweet, with a somewhat chemmy funk undertone. This quickly morphed into a similarly hashy aftertaste that lingered on my taste buds for over 30 minutes. I had a difficult time uncovering Sour Diesel’s essence, but its properties made themselves known in the effects.
It’s always fun to find hash or flower with a flavor or aroma that almost exactly resembles a food item, especially a super specific one. In the case of the Poon Tang Pie strain, I cannot smoke or even smell it without thinking of the purple gummy (denoted as passion fruit) from the Sour Patch Kids Tropical pack—their essences are one and the same in my head.
Effects
The combo of Sour Diesel and Poon Tang Pie genetics made for a unique high—an interesting mix of feeling both wired and chilled out at the same time. Upon further reflection it looks like the Papaya genes played a big part in mellowing out the strong raciness Sour Diesel is known for, which made for a smoother ride as a “sativa-sensitive” person. I was sure to smoke this one at a lower temp since Sour D can hit pretty hard, especially when dabbed hot. Considering it's a heady, senses-heavy blend, I'd say Poon Diesel is better for times when you’re open to getting zooted, although this could be dialed up or down depending on the temperature it’s dabbed at. It seems like a good daytime choice that gives you a balance between up and down. Whether you're being engaged in activity or just hanging out, I’d recommend going low with this one to fully enjoy the unique flavor here.
