Big Heads Little Necks GAK Lemon Zelatti Live Rosin Review
Highlights
Experience
The GAK Lemon Zelatti strain is as uncommon as it sounds and is one that the TerpGuide team has never tried, so the bar was set pretty high when we got our hands on a gram from Big Heads Little Necks. This hash has a phenomenal thick pudding texture and melts flawlessly whether dabbed via warm or cold start. In both its flavor and aroma notes there’s a soft lemon candy aspect that’s both mentally invigorating and mouthwatering. The next time you’re able to grab a jar of this one, maybe grab two, especially if you like uplifting, energizing effects.
Texture
I have yet to see any other recreational or medical cannabis brand in Colorado doing the kind of strain specific label artwork that Big Heads Little Necks is. They typically choose a fruit or food associated with the strain and use a sketched cross section slice of it as their top lid label artwork (see below), which covers the donut hole on the popular POP-VAC jar. Like the other jars we’ve picked up from them, the side walls are wrapped with a stony, strain specific cartoon scene.
No matter who you are, there’s something exciting about the sensory experience of cracking a POP-VAC jar open and feeling the seal pop in your hands, especially when the aroma hits you in the face. The texture of GAK Lemon Zelatti is similar to creamy peanut butter—sticky, smooth, and satisfyingly smeary. Its adherence to the dab tool, while a minor challenge, speaks to its rich, resinous quality, which aficionados like us find particularly appealing.
Aroma
Locked in by the seal of the POP-VAC jar, the aroma on the GAK Lemon Zelatti wafts out as if it's been trapped for months. There’s no doubt that this strain’s nose is lemony-citrus forward. It’s zesty up front but also boasts an automotive workshop element, which consists of a pungent earthy fuel smell with a robust coffee-like finish. The latter came as a bit of a surprise to me just going off the strain name and knowing nothing about it, but after looking further into the genetics, it makes perfect sense. The citrus is derived from the Dying Breed Seed’s GAK Lemon parent while the fuel notes are a product of Cannarado’s Zelatti parent. This unique cross from Cannarado is as well balanced as it gets in terms of bringing two strain profiles together.
Mode of Consumption
My go-to dabbing method is a quartz banger and a glass piece with water so I stuck to that and used my squeaky clean Leisure incycler with fresh cold water and a Zephyr quartz bucket to unpack this product. I first tried the GAK Lemon Zelatti after heating the banger and letting it cool to around 520°F which allowed it to melt evenly and relatively quickly off the tool. In an effort to capture delicate flavors, I also did a cold start which was a bit of a challenge due to the gooey texture, but that’s a good problem to have.
While I tend to stick to my glass and quartz set up as a go to dabbing vehicle, I ended up finishing this gram off during an outing via Puffco Peak Pro with the 3D Chamber, which tasted absolutely delicious at 500°F.
Flavors & Mouthfeel
The lemon flavor, though mild, is distinctly noticeable in each dab, and presents in a candy-like citrus-sweetness with some hints of bitter lemon peel. With that there’s also a gassiness, an echo of the aroma that ties the tasting experience back to its olfactory presentation. This gassy undertone provides a rich backdrop that contrasts beautifully with the bright lemon notes. I took my normal Tic-Tac sized dab for both cold and warm starts and I used water in my rig to filter the vapor.
Effects
I’ve never tried this strain so I didn’t know what to expect effects wise, but I ended up getting a little higher than I anticipated when I opted to try this as my first dab of the day in the early afternoon on a Friday. Unlike the Big Heads Little Necks Cake Crasher we reviewed, this one revved me up into a higher, more productive gear. I did feel a bit wirey, but that was only after the warm start dabs. The cold start dabs were a lot more soft edged with a smoother transition from sober to stoned. While this hash might not be for everyone, especially those who are sensitive, it can definitely be put to use when an upbeat experience and a get shit done session are desired. I found myself wanting to tackle as much as possible when I dabbed the GAK Lemon Zelatti, but not in a very focused way. With that said I think this is a great summer strain that would pair well with social gatherings, sand volleyball, painting outdoors, or getting into an organization/ cleaning sesh. I wouldn’t necessarily reach for it if I was looking to get some computer work done and I especially wouldn’t reach for it as a wind down strain. All things considered, Big Heads Little Necks knocked it out of the park and we can’t wait to see what they drop next.
