14er Boulder Kush Mints 4G Bucket Cold Cure Live Rosin Review
Highlights
Experience
It has been a few years since I sampled 14er’s solventless options on the market and I was curious to try them again. This four gram bucket definitely brought the effects full force while still offering solid Kush Mints flavor. The color and nose on the jar spoke to my body in a specific way – I knew it was going to be effective medicine for most. While lacking some of the depth of flavor from offerings almost twice the price, I cannot deny the excellent value proposition and quality on offer with this 4 gram Kush Mints bucket. It falls only smidge short of our “Premium” rating in my book and we found that decision hard to make for once.
Texture
This one is a wet, malleable badder texture that’s reminiscent of the BHO badder days! It’s an easy to portion soft serve that holds its shape for a little while, but eventually falls back into itself after a short whip. It’s pretty much the ideal texture for getting the exact right dab size of choice and that unique satisfaction when the tool slides in just right. The Kush Mints color presents hues of amber and peach that indicate to me a longer term plant or fuller spectrum of micron ranges being used. 14er’s packaging offers a clean and straightforward design that highlights the strain, type of concentrate, and other product information. The jars come in a black paperboard box with nice metallic silver text and details that pop against the black background.
Aroma
This aspect is a bit harder to separate the different aromas at play; the lines dividing the flavors are smudged here. This particular rosin is earthy with sweet wood notes, a touch of chocolate arrives with the mint, and then the sinus smacking gassy Kush hits at the end. While distinctly gassy and somewhat minty as Kush Mints often is, I found it lacks some of the detail or resolution of a living soil batch of Kush Mints I recently finished. Please don’t mistake this for being a “quiet” jar, it is still pungent and definitely nose catching! The flavor is fully present, doesn’t fall off towards the end, there were no hints of chlorophyll or any sort of “weird” scents that you might be concerned about at this price point either. Once you consider the cost to performance ratio end of the equation, this 14er stands out as a great value option for the Colorado recreational/adult Use market.
Mode of Consumption
The ample quantity on hand allowed for less guilt when taking larger sized dabs through my Highly Educated Control Tower quartz nail. While I did use my quartz nail and glass rig a third of the time, I still found myself using my Puffco Peak Pro with 3DXL chamber for a majority of the dabs from this jar. Once again choosing my Purple 480°F preset that lasts a full 60 seconds allowing for more opportunities to experience the Kushy flavor. I found the Puffco provided me with little to no throat irritation, while I did consistently encounter minor to moderate throat irritation when using my quartz and glass rig combo.
Flavors & Mouthfeel
While the aroma to flavor translation was very consistent, overall I found the flavor to be lacking in depth and detail. What do I mean by that? Well the essence present leaned more towards the generic side with less depth to each of the components making up the overall flavor profile. It still hits all of the notes I look for in a Kush Mints product, yet lacks the finer details that help round out and make the experience a “premium” one. There were zero issues with cleanliness, contaminant, or chazzing and I would again qualify the throat irritation as minor. Again, when you consider the cost I found it to be quite satisfactory and leagues above some budget offerings that were on the market (from other brands) only a few years ago.
Effects
Interestingly, this batch of 14er Kush Mints rosin has a gentle initial come-up that ramps upward for a bit, plateaus for the same length of time, and continues in that pattern for 20-30 minutes. At times it feels like a big hug that gets tighter and tighter around my chest, but that sensation fades with the initial peak. Where it stands out is in the muscle relaxation department for my neuropathy-based issues and it also offers moderate pain relieving effects. It’s consistently music enhancing with a strong time dilation effect, so be warned and set a timer on your phone if you need to keep an eye on something. My thought processes remained relatively lucid and I didn’t find myself forgetting things that I might with other strong body “stone” type cultivars. It does yield a moderate to strong couch lock, but if you push through you can stay in motion and get things done even with intense joint pain. The effects are heavy and the relief decently long lasting, which I reached for consistently on high-pain days. While I personally found it usable all day, we would recommend less medically-oriented consumers to start off with small portions and post-work consumption here.
