Billo Midori Flower Strain Review
Highlights
Experience
If you’re trying to find some chill time, Billo’s Midori cannabis flower is an excellent choice to kick back and relax with. Its fruity, funky aroma and deep high are exactly what the doctor ordered on this particular 4/20, or for any day that you want to take it easy. It’s a great strain that compliments finding a movie and something to snack on or loading up a video game. The genetics behind the Midori we enjoyed are also noteworthy, which lead to an overall experience and profile that most people will enjoy thoroughly.
Appearance, Bud Structure, Density, & Hydration
There’s actually quite a bit to say about the physical characteristics of the Midori we received. Sometimes cannabis flower is elegant in its simplicity – good ole fashioned weed. That is not the case with Billo’s Midori. It’s chunky and aggressive, trichome frosted all the way up and down to even the stem itself (to the degree that a much younger me might break it up and smoke it too), and has a fully checkered purple-dark green hue. If Brutalist architecture had a bud structure, this would be it. It reminds me of a lot of top notch kush-leaning strains I’ve had the pleasure of trying, even though upon inspection of the lineage behind it, that doesn’t seem to be the case.
It’s more dense than not but mainly exhibits jewel-sized calyxes that ask to be broken off whole and put in a grinder. The humidity measurement came in at 41%, which is pretty typical of properly cured cannabis in Colorado. It breaks up easily without being dusty, and of course the aroma as it’s described below cranks up a significant notch. There’s just something about the Midori that looks sort of…strong.
Aroma
Billo’s Midori has a welcoming aroma that offers a distinctly floral, not quite yet ripe cantaloupe-melony fruitiness which finishes with a seasoned funk that’s genuinely refreshing. I’d put it at a 5 of 10 on the loud scale, which isn’t a dig at the sample at all, but it’s the strain’s fairly delicate terpene profile that really got me interested. Bear with me on this one: this strain is a bit like a friend who happens to be a gentle giant. If you just saw them on the street, you might think they were big and a little intimidating, but it turns out once you get to know them, they have a real soft side. You feel better being around them. Safe, even. This ridiculous analogy carries all the way through to the end of this review. It doesn’t take a cannabis connoisseur to suss out the charming nature of Midori’s scent. It’s the kind of flower you’d ask your hasn’t-smoked-weed since the 70s mom to sniff, and she’d like it.
Mode of Consumption
I wanted to dig a little deeper into the aroma to see if I could tease out anything else, so grinding up a healthy pinch of the Midori was on the menu. My trusty jet black, oddly heavy two piece Space Case grinder got the job done with ease. When I tapped out the evenly ground buds, I knew immediately this was going to be good as I gently packed about a third of my go-to glass spoon. This strain would lend itself to just about any preferred flower smoking method however, just make sure to do a routine stem detachment prior to orchestrating a joint.
Flavors, Mouthfeel, & Ash Color
Midori has an oddly elegant flavor that is sort of the reverse of how it smells. I can only imagine it would be even further accentuated in the best kind of way in a solventless hash. My palate after the first rip was inundated with a funky, peppery herbaceousness that quickly mellows into a lemony sweetness that sticks around. Its essence on your tongue is full bodied and noticeably heavier than its aroma would previously indicate. I really happened to like the strong flavor of the Midori. It left me sitting there decoding its layers for a while before I went for toke number two, which took me right back to where I started through the same sequence. We’d like to think most people would probably really dig how it tastes because this particular strain from Billo is also clean in a way that doesn’t leave you immediately grasping for a glass of water. The ash burned down to the off white color you’d want, with no lurking chemical aftertaste or metallic qualities that the cheap stuff can sometimes have.
Effects
Now, for the best part. The part that I’d been waiting for roughly all day, because as anyone who works in the industry knows, unless you’re really lucky 420 is always a busy day. Promotions, sales, special drops, you name it. There’s just a lot going on this time of year, so the immediate wind down the Midori imparted upon me was pronounced. If a proverbial going from highway speeds to cruising around your neighborhood on a summer night with the windows down is what you’re after, this one will probably do the trick (don’t smoke and drive, though). The body high is quickly saturating and will loosen you up. Note to self: the next time I’m scheduled for a Swedish massage, pre-gaming it with some Midori would be wonderful.
As the effects settled in and I settled down, I didn’t find myself getting particularly sleepy until much later on. My experience wasn’t necessarily spacy either, but it will most likely take you down into a lower gear physically and mentally. The idea of going on a hike is probably one that can wait until tomorrow. The high for me is more of a stoney one that stuck around for a long time, and tapered off slowly. The properly medium small bowl I consumed pretty much lasted all night and I wasn’t left looking for more. That amount alone got me where I was hoping to go, which was to ease out of the day and get all snug and prepped for the rest of the night. It has a nicely
